Delphi : The sanctuary
The sanctuary of Pythion Apollo. Built on the southern slopes of the Mount Parnassos, it faces the valley leading from Lamia to Itea and to the Korinthiakos gulf.
The whole site, as the pilgrims could see it when arriving by the road coming from the Gymnasium and the temple of Athina Pronaia.|
On the left, the Sacred Way which runs through the sanctuary and leads to the temple of Apollo. In the background, the Gymnasium. In the very background, the valley leading to Itea and its 'sea of olive-trees'.|
